When I was a kid, I used to think 75 years was a long time. Ancient history in fact. Apparently not, because I will soon turn 75 and I don't feel 'ancient.' I do have some aches and pains, and a few missing parts that I accumulated over those years, but compared to others, I'm in pretty good shape and I still enjoy life.
There were times during those years that I wondered what the hell I was thinking when I did some of the things I did. As much as I would like to take some back, it's not possible, so I won't dwell on it.
But while thinking back, I mentally assessed my lot in life and concluded that it has been a good one. I didn't have to kill or harm anyone, and as far as I know, no one tried to kill or harm me. I've had a loving family, a wonderful childhood, some interesting and exciting adventures I would have never dreamed of, I've met a lot of people, made a lot of friends, and learned a lot about myself and the world about me. In fact, I learned to enjoy learning, and I try hard to learn something new every day, regardless of whether I will use the information or not. It makes me happy just learning it, and that's enough.
I definitely married well. Judy Alethia Conrad McMillin. I can't imagine life without her.
We took serious the vows we made to each other over 40 years ago, and it has been a wonderful life together ever since. I can say the same about the family I inherited when we married. They are all good people.
I keep thinking that one day I will win the Lottery or my ship will come in or some long lost relative will leave me a lot of money. I know it's just wishful thinking but there are times when I wish I was rich enough to repay everyone who made me happy. Perhaps they could use the money to add to their own happiness. It's a good feeling.
The good thing about being 75 is that it's just a date and not a reflection of how young I feel. Because I feel great...
